The Reason the Democratic Party Refuses to Release their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This move by the DNC to suppress the publication of its own autopsy report on the last presidential race is stunning but not surprising. Resistant to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus behaves more like a PR firm than an electoral entity focused on building a volunteer base to secure victories.

A Climate of Conformity

Hesitant to depart from the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the committee has stayed within the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Releasing the findings would have indicated that the leadership truly desire to encourage open debate regarding the missteps which allowed the former president to return to the White House. Yet, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there are no lessons to be learned following the tragic debacle of 2024.

Our guiding principle: does this help us win? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from our fundamental goal," a justification which was presented to justify concealing the analysis.

Major Failures a Report Could Have Examined

A genuine analysis of substance would not dodge key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Electoral Alienation: Failing to retain of millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate during the previous election was decisive during the tight recent race.
  • The Decision to Seek Re-election: The stubborn decision of a party leader to run again, alongside a last-minute exit, is viewed as robbing the party's base of a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: While facing rising costs, the electoral effort reportedly accommodating corporate donors' interests and not managing to address the role of big business.
  • The Foreign Policy Factor: An unwillingness to adjust an approach on the situation in Gaza reportedly led to losing many voters, especially among young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Youth Backing: Research shows a major drop-off of Democratic support among voters aged 18-29.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy is consistent with a pattern to avoid uncomfortable facts. This mirrors an episode where nearly all Democratic officeholder in Washington supported a sitting president's decision for seeking another term until a disastrous televised debate forced an exit.

Concurrently, overwhelming numbers of the electorate had been continually telling researchers that they opposed that candidate to seek re-election.

Financial Concerns

A substantive report could examine issues regarding where money went, such as how much money flowed to insider consultants as well as advertising contractors over the course of a campaign that managed to spend a staggering war chest in a short period.

A Broader Problem

Fundamentally, the secrecy of the official autopsy points to a deference toward the established hierarchy who engineered an unsuccessful electoral effort. The message to the party's base – which includes countless loyal volunteers – is that they do not be trusted to understand what the insiders claim to have learned from hundreds of interviews compiled from feedback from all states.

A party unwilling to honestly assess its own failings is unlikely to climb out of the pattern that ended up being so helpful to the rival party.
